You’re telling me there has been a Gay Island this ENTIRE TIME and I’m only just finding out about it????
WHAT
okay, but not enough people know the details on this. people at pride were upset about gay rights in australia. so they decided to sail 200 miles into the coral sea just ‘cause and put a rainbow flag on a fucking empty island out of spite. and i’m talking empty. no inhabitants. zero. it was a flat piece of land with a bit of dry grass. now it has a camp site and a post office.
they have a declaration of independence that talks a bit about gay rights and then just flat out copies the “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” part from the american declaration of independence. and here’s the best part: the founding group actually elected their emperor. he was originally going to be called the “administrator” of a republic. their website, however, says that “upon legal advice, his title was changed to that of Sovereign on the grounds that under Australian law a defacto prince trying to claim his crown cannot be charged with treason”. so they made it a kingdom and he now claims to be a descendent of edward ii.
everything about this is glorious and everyone should know about it.
Well, here you have it, folks. The day has arrived. I’ve made a Patreon.
Firstly, I can’t thank everyone enough for the messages of support and encouragement I’ve received regarding this next step. Your kind words were the final push I needed to make this decision, and your faith in me and the content I make has been so humbling. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the heart of my bottom.
Now the mush is out the way, here are all the details you need:
What is Patreon?
Essentially, Patreon is a membership platform where you pay monthly to access exclusive content from your favourite creators. There are different reward levels or “tiers” where if you pledge a higher monthly amount, you receive greater rewards in return. For me this includes exclusive behind-the-scenes content, early access to tumblr posts, as well as signed art and cosplay prints plus monthly podcast episodes and livestreams at higher levels. You can check out full details for each of the tiers on my Patreon page!
What will change?
For those who would just like to continue enjoying the content I publish on this blog, very little will change. This blog will remain exactly the same, and I will be posting the same content on here that I’ve always done.
My main objective is to create higher-quality content that I would never have been able to make otherwise without the support of Patreons. I also want to be more interactive with you guys and show you a bit more of my world outside this blog.
What now?
That’s up to you! If you’d like to support me, tier levels start at $1 for access to my Patreon-only feed. My current goal is to have 50 Patreons by the end of this month, which if we achieve then I have promised to release the first episode of a new Baking With Jess series! However, if you are not in a position to pledge please do not feel badly. The fact that any of you chose to follow this blog in the first place makes me so happy as it is.
Thank you so much for your continued support of what I do, and I can’t wait to start making exciting things for you all.
So you may have guessed by now from all my not subtle hints at an “upcoming announcement”, but tomorrow is the day I will be launching my Patreon!
Most of you know already that I have a full-time job outside of this blog, and that is still the case. But I’ve been wanting to change my career for a long time now, and I feel like this is a real opportunity to do so, scary as it is. Starting a Patreon is absolutely not something I am doing lightly, and the past month or so has consisted solely of me planning and preparing for this launch as best I can.
Making content and being part of this community has been one of my greatest joys over the past number of years. I never dreamed that I would have a space where I was allowed to be this creative whilst also being 100% myself. This community as a whole has had such an overwhelmingly positive impact on me… I figure all of that warrants a little leap of faith.
Patreon is going to be the place I can start making content at a much higher quality whilst also connecting with you guys better. I have some pretty serious plans for projects I’ve never previously been able to attempt, which I hope will really excite you.
So if this sounds like something you’d be interested in, join me tomorrow at 6PM GMT on Monday 4th March where I’ll finally be going live with my Patreon page and announcing all the details.
